Corona Brasov v Olympiacos

On home court in Austria, Hypo Tirol was pushed forward by an enthusiastic crowd to deliver the best volleyball performance they could. After two hard-fought sets, the Austrian champions showed a flawless performance in the third set to claim a huge straight sets win. Arthur Nath in particular shone in attack and putting the Tyroleans only two sets away from qualifying for the prestigious group stage of the Champions League after a 9 years absence.

“We have a perfect starting position, but we know that it can be difficult again in the second leg. The opponent will risk everything in front of the home crowd.”

Niklas Kronthaler
Hypo Captain

In the second matchup, Corona Brasov from Romania hosted Olympiacos Piraeus from Greece hoping for a result that would still keep their hopes of qualification alive. It was not meant to be for the Romanians who put up a good fight against a more experienced team despite losing in straight sets. For Olympiacos, Aleksandar Atanasijevic continues to shine, contributing 18 pts to his team's victory, same as John Perrin, both having an incredible night on the court.

Despite the straight sets wins for Hypo Tirol and Olympiacos, everything is still to play for and Golden Sets are very much still in the cards, as we've already seen this season.

The return leg matches are schedule for next week and will be streamed LIVE on CEV's Eurovolley.TV .
