The first two matchdays of the second round of #EuroVolleyU16M have wrapped up, and so far, the most impressive performance has come from Team Ukraine (Pool C), which secured two hard-fought victories — first over France (3-1), and then over Serbia (3-2). Among the Ukrainian attackers, Andrii SHYSHCHAK and Andrii MERKULOV stood out as the top scorers.
In Pool B, both matches — Azerbaijan vs. Estonia and Spain vs. Austria — ended in straight sets. Estonia allowed their opponents to score more than 16 points only in the final set, while Spain never let Austria reach the 20-point mark.
A high-flying match took place in Pool A between Latvia and Finland, where the Baltic team emerged victorious. Hosts Bulgaria defeated Cyprus in four sets.
However, home-court advantage doesn’t guarantee a win — for example, Georgia (Pool D) suffered a disappointing 0-3 loss to Hungary, while Romania was narrowly defeated by Slovenia in a hard-fought five-set battle.
In Pool E, both matches ended 3-1 in favor of Italy and hosts Greece. For Greece, Nikolaos PACHAKIS once again stood out, scoring 19 points in the match.
Matches in Groups A, C, and E are streamed on Eurovolley.tv.
The second round will continue for two more days — April 26 and 27 — as teams keep fighting for a spot in the final stage of the tournament, which will take place in Yerevan, Armenia, from July 23 to August 3, 2025. The five pool winners and five second-place teams from the second round will advance to the Final Round, along with the two best third-placed teams across all pools. They will join host Armenia and the winners of three first-round zonal qualifiers (Türkiye, Poland, and Czechia), which were completed late last year or earlier this year.
