To be honest I expected more difficult game. The first halves of the sets were as I predicted, but we controlled the end of each set. I’m really happy, it was important victory for us.

Helios Grizzlys GIESEN VS Olympiacos PIRAEUS

The match in Hildesheim, Germany, had Helios GRIZZLYS looking to bounce back from their 3-1 loss in Greece. But Olympiacos, leaders of the Greek A1 League, stayed strong. The GRIZZLYS, still dealing with recent losses in the German Cup and Bundesliga struggled against Olympiacos’s solid performance.

The GRIZZLYS started strong, building a 15-10 lead with the crowd behind them. But Olympiacos fought back, tying the score at 15-15 with steady plays. From there, the Greek team kept their momentum, taking the set 25-20 and setting the tone for the match.

Olympiacos showed great strategy throughout the match, adjusting quickly after the GRIZZLYS' strong start. Their serving game was a key factor, with Aleksandar ATANASIJEVIC and John Gordon PERRIN making it difficult for the GRIZZLYS to gain any momentum.
The GRIZZLYS, playing without Michiel Ahyi, still found moments of strength. Jakob GÜNTHÖR and Mark RURA stepped up, delivering key blocks and spikes to keep the match close. But in the end, Olympiacos’ consistent play and strong individual performances proved too much for the GRIZZLYS.

Aleksandar ATANASIJEVIC scored 18 points, using spikes and serves to break through the GRIZZLYS' defense and lead Olympiacos to victory. He earned MVP honors.

This win moves Olympiacos PIRAEUS to second place in Pool B with 8 points, strengthening their position while GRIZZLYS stay in fourth with 1 point.

"We started in a really bad way, we were disconnected and played not like a Team. After we were lucky to get the set with a few really good Services. Step by step we played better to win the game."

Andrea Gardini
Head Coach, Olympiacos

"I think we played well after Giesen started strong and then we served better and improved as the game went on."
