CEV Champions League Volley 2025 | Women
In the second Leg of the Champions League, BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała played against the Romanians from CSO Voluntari 2005. In the first Leg, the Romanian champions lost 0:3 away to the Italian Savino Del Bene Scandicci, while the Polish team defeated Allianz MTV Stuttgart 3:1.
It seemed that the favourites of this match would be the volleyball players from Bielsko-Biała. Meanwhile, once again, it turned out that sport likes surprises and this time it was the players from Bielsko-Biała who had to swallow the bitter pill of defeat. However, the beginning of the first set did not indicate this. After an attack by Joanna Pacak, BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała led 6:2! Unfortunately, after a few minutes the hosts equalised to 7:7 after an attack by Rodica Buterez.
The quick recovery had a very positive effect on the CSO Voluntari team, and definitely a negative effect on the players of coach Bartłomiej Piekarczyk. What is worse, as time passed, the Romanians were the better team, who not only played effectively in attack, but also did great in defence. Only a few attacks by the Bielsko team found a direct path to the pitch.
As a result, the hosts won the first set 25:21. The second set also started badly. After a few minutes, the hosts were leading 9:3. Coach Bartłomiej Piekarczyk tried to rotate the line-up, and Wiktoria Szewczyk, Marharyta Geiko and Nikola Abramajtys appeared on the pitch. Unfortunately, it did not help much. The rushing hosts could not be stopped and won clearly 25:17.
In the third set, the even fight lasted until the middle of this part. Later, the hosts gained the advantage (18:15). A few moments later, the Romanians were already leading by four points (20:16), and after another few minutes they had several match points (24:20).
The Bielsko team tried to make up for the losses with Wiktoria Szewczyk's serves (a good change for our young setter) and almost succeeded. At 23:24, we even had the ball "in the air" for a draw, but ultimately the action was won by the Romanians, who could enjoy a 25:23 victory and 3:0 in the entire match. For the Bielsko team, it was undoubtedly a cold shower and a valuable lesson from which we will certainly be able to draw constructive conclusions for the future.
Bartłomiej Piekarczyk"It’s definitely a cold shower for us. I thought we were well-prepared for this match, although, to be honest, we were expecting a different setter. But it wasn’t really about the Voluntari team at all. They played at a really high level. We knew they could put up a strong game. They’re a good team, and when they’re in the zone, they play exactly like they did today. The issue was more on our side. We didn’t even play at 50% of our usual level, in my opinion."
