ACH Volley, Guaguas complete #CLVolleyM Round 4 line-up
News
Earlier this week, ACH Volley LJUBLJANA and Guaguas LAS PALMAS secured the last two spots at stake to join the pool stage of the #CLVolleyM as they did not drop a single set in their Round 3 home and away matches with Radnicki KRAGUJEVAC and Levski SOFIA, respectively.
ACH Volley, whose roster includes this year a good share of the highly successful Slovenian men’s national team, looked dominant in their matchups with the reigning Serbian national champions. After taking two sets in their home game at Tivoli sports hall in front of a massive crowd of some 3,800 fans, they had already pocketed their place in Round 4. There they join Italy’s TRENTINO Itas, Türkiye’s Ziraat Bankkart ANKARA and France’s TOURS VB for a series of mouth-watering fixtures, including a Leg 1 matchup in Trento against the winners of the #CLVolleyM in 2024. Their opposite hitter Toncek Stern has played a pivotal role in ACH Volley’s successful campaign this far, top scoring in the early rounds with a massive tally of 112 points to his name. ACH Volley had their best result in the competition back in 2010, when they reached the final stage and finished in fourth place.
Spain’s Guaguas LAS PALMAS return to the #CLVolleyM pool stage after they sensationally reached the quarterfinals in 2024 – that year they had started their journey from the early rounds as well. Last season, they failed to progress to Round 4 after losing to Olympiacos PIRAEUS, which replicated their same feat from a year before by advancing to the quarterfinals as well. This time, Guaguas got their revenge in Round 2 and have progressed to Round 4 by conceding only two sets in six matches this far. There they will play reigning #CLVolleyM champions Sir Sicoma Monini PERUGIA of Italy, Germany’s BERLIN Recycling Volleys and VK Lvi PRAHA of Czechia.
Guaguas will contest their first pool match in less than two weeks at the iconic Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin. Their roster this season includes the legendary Cuban-born outside hitter Osmany Juantorena, even though in the early rounds the most points (60) were scored by Brazilian Francisco Wallyson Bezerra Souza.
