Leana Grozer: Carrying a Legacy, Creating Her Own Path

In European volleyball, the name Grozer carries weight. It represents power, professionalism, and a deep connection to the game. For Leana Grozer, that legacy is not a burden - it is a foundation. Raised in an environment where Volleyball was part of everyday life, Grozer has grown into a player who blends inherited passion with her own ambition, carving out an identity defined by emotion, resilience, and constant growth.

Now competing in Pool E of the CEV ZEREN Group Champions League Volley 2026 | Women, Leana Grozer represents SSC Palmberg Schwerin, where she has become a key asset and frequent tactical option for head coach Felix Koslowski. An outside hitter with growing influence, Grozer combines reliability with attacking presence. Alongside her club commitments, she is also a member of the Germany women's national volleyball team, embracing the challenge of competing at the highest international level and continuing to expand and improve her game.

A Childhood Shaped by Volleyball

From her earliest years, sport shaped Leana’s world. Growing up in the Grozer family meant that Volleyball was always present - training sessions, matches, travel, and the unmistakable rhythm of a professional athlete’s life. Watching her father - Georg Grozer,  live and breathe the sport made a lasting impression. Very quickly, she realised that she wanted the same thing: to live the Volleyball life, to feel the same love for the game, and to build a career around something that truly inspires her.

That emotional connection has remained central to her journey. Volleyball was never just a hobby; it became part of her identity.

Lessons That Still Guide Her

Among the countless lessons passed on by her father, one message continues to guide her above all others: never lose your happiness. Never lose the fun. Never change who you are for anyone. Showing emotion, embracing personality, and staying authentic are principles Grozer still relies on, particularly in high-pressure moments.

Equally important is another piece of advice she carries with her - always find something you can do to help the team. Even when things are not going perfectly, there is always a way to contribute, to support, and to make a difference.

Choosing the Professional Path

For Grozer, the decision to pursue Volleyball professionally came early. There was no single defining moment, but rather a natural certainty that this was the path she wanted to follow. Doing what you love every day, she believes, is the best way to live.

Facing Pressure and Early Challenges 

Like every professional athlete, her career has already presented significant challenges. One of the most demanding periods came when she had to choose her first professional club. At the same time, she was experiencing her first summer with the national team - an exciting milestone that also brought considerable pressure.

Balancing expectations, making decisions about her future, and staying true to herself required maturity beyond her years. That summer, filled with responsibility and stress, became one of the most formative phases of her development.

Finding a Home in Schwerin

Her journey led her to Schwerin, a place that quickly became more than just a club. Schwerin is her home. The connection between teammates, fans, and the organisation created an environment in which Grozer could grow both as a player and as a person.

She values every moment there, appreciating each opportunity to learn, improve, and experience Volleyball at the highest level within a tightly connected community.

Refining Her Game at the Highest Level

On the court, Grozer is deeply focused on refinement. Her current priorities include stabilising her reception and becoming more aggressive and intelligent in attack. She enjoys attacking and works constantly on developing sharper angles, smarter decisions, and greater variation.

Competing in Europe’s elite club competition has further accelerated her development. Playing against the best teams is demanding, but it is also motivating. Facing high blocks and world-class opponents forces adaptation and growth. This season, Leana's objective is clear: to finish first or second in the #CLVolleyW group stage. 

Mental Strength and Inner Dialogue

Mental strength plays a decisive role in high-pressure moments. For Leana, it often comes down to internal dialogue - giving herself positive feedback, staying present, and trusting her preparation.

When doubt appears, she thinks back to her father’s words and commits fully instead of overthinking. She understands that the mind can become an athlete’s toughest opponent, and learning when to silence it is part of becoming elite.

Leadership, Growth, and Future Dreams

Looking ahead, Grozer’s ambitions are both immediate and expansive. This season, she is focused on proving herself, growing with her team, and winning the German championship. At the same time, she is determined to step into a leadership role - leading not only through words, but through consistency, attitude, and performance on the court.

Beyond that, the future remains open. Playing in top leagues such as Italy, Türkiye, or Poland is a dream she holds with confidence and patience.

To young girls dreaming of a professional volleyball career, Grozer’s message is grounded and sincere. Never give up. Stay motivated and help motivate others. Always look for ways to contribute to the team, even on difficult days.
