Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia will defend their title at the #CLVolleyM Final Four in Turin. The ‘Block Devils’ will face PGE Projekt Warszawa in the semi-finals after overcoming Guaguas Las Palmas in both matches, though they had to fight hard to secure their victories.
While the final scoreline suggests a comfortable win, the reality on court told a different story, with the Spanish side delivering a strong performance throughout.
An ace by Oleg Plotnytskyi gave Perugia an early 3-1 lead in the opening set. Guaguas quickly levelled at 3-3, but the hosts restored control, extending their advantage to 7-4 after a block by Simone Giannelli. The teams traded points until Guaguas closed the gap to 12-11 thanks to strong serving from Osmany Juantorena and a block by Helder Spencer. However, Perugia regained momentum, with an ace from Kamil Semeniuk and another Giannelli block opening up a 16-12 lead. Wassim Ben Tara then took control late in the set, scoring twice in attack and adding a block to push the score to 22-15, before Perugia closed the set 25-18 for a 1-0 lead.
The Italian side made a strong start to the second set, moving ahead 3-0, but Guaguas responded to restore balance and keep the margin minimal. Perugia led 6-3 and 9-6, only for the visitors to close in again at 9-8. A block by Tomas Rousseaux brought Guaguas level at 11-11, but the hosts immediately regained a two-point cushion at 13-11. The battle remained tight until Perugia broke away from 16-15 to 18-15, eventually building their largest lead at 21-17. They maintained control to take the set 25-21 and move 2-0 ahead.
One more set was all that separated Perugia from the semi-finals. The home team surged to a 5-2 lead, but Guaguas showed resilience, turning an 8-5 deficit into a 9-8 advantage with a 4-0 run. The Spanish side stayed in front at 12-10, 15-12 and 17-13. Perugia responded, narrowing the gap to 17-15, only for Guaguas to extend again to 20-17. The hosts fought back once more, levelling at 23-23 after a superb serve from Semeniuk and a powerful spike by Ben Tara. Bryan Argilagos then delivered a crucial block to earn match point, which Semeniuk converted with an ace for 25-23, sealing a 3-0 victory and a place in the semi-finals.
Oleg Plotnytskyi was named MVP of the match, finishing with 13 points (1 ace, 22 receptions, 45% positive reception, 67% in attack), the same tally as Wassim Ben Tara, who contributed 4 blocks and a 45% attack efficiency. Kamil Semeniuk added 12 points for Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia, including 2 aces, 47% positive reception and 63% in attack.
For Guaguas Las Palmas, Osmany Juantorena scored 13 points (33% positive reception, 54% in attack), while Helder Spencer added 11 points, including 2 blocks and an impressive 75% attack efficiency.

“It was very difficult. We played very well in the first two sets, but with our own mistakes and lack of focus we created problems for ourselves. I’m very happy for Bryan (Argilagos), our second setter, and his role at the end of the match. We are happy, and everyone in Perugia should be happy.”
