Hosts Grupa Azoty Kedzierzyn-Kozle cruised to their second shutout in Pool A. On Wednesday, the Polish team dominated over Turkey’s Fenerbahce HDI Istanbul on the way to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-13) victory.

Grupa Azoty had the upper hand through most of the first set. Although Nicholas Hoag was putting on a great performance on Fenerbahce’s side, scoring a total of eight points in the set, the home guys delivered an impressive team effort with Kamil Semeniuk blasting from the back row for the closing point at 25-21.

Further improving their efficiency in offence, Grupa Azoty were well in control of the second set. With six points in a row with Semeniuk serving, they ran off with a 17-9 lead. With an elegant tip on a second touch, setter Benjamin Toniutti delivered the set point, immediately converted to a 25-20 win.

Early into the third set, Jakub Kochanowski hammered three aces within a single rotation on the serve to give Grupa Azoty an 8-1 lead and practically pre-decide the match. In the course of the set, coach Nikola Grbic made a number of changes to his squad, but that did not change the way the home team dominated on the court. Middle blocker Krzysztof Rejno scored the winner directly from the serving line as the Polish side celebrated with an emphatic 25-13 win.

Four men reached the double digits in the match – Fenerbahce’s Metin Toy and Salvador Hidalgo with 11 points each, and Grupa Azoty’s Lukasz Kaczmarek and Aleksander Sliwka with 10 apiece.
