Article 24 November 2020

The second fixture of the Pool C Day 1 between the hosts VC Maritza PLOVDIV and ASPTT MULHOUSE VB ended after 75 minutes with the French team earning their 10th victory in #CLVolleyW. Not being considered as favourites, ASPTT MULHOUSE VB knew how to use their chances, especially that the Bulgarian champions made many unforced errors. The first two sets were tight till the middle, but in the decisive parts the guest team controlled the game. The last part was a show of strength, the French team made only one mistake and easily closed the game.

• The Champions League's youngest player, Maritza's 14-year-old opposite Iva Dudova, appeared on the court during the third set and marked her international debut.

• Having sat out the entire previous season recovering from surgery, Miroslava Paskova marked her return to the Maritza squad in today’s match against ASPTT.

• Helena Cazaute (ASPTT) was named MVP after scoring as many as 12 points, her teammate Laetitia Crescence Moma Bassoko tallied match-high 15 points

• Two legendary names of Bulgarian men’s volleyball were at the Kolodruma for the match - Lyubomir Ganev in his current role as national federation president, and Dimo Tonev in the role of guest commentator for the Bulgarian National Television.

"First of all, we are very happy because finally we get to play. We've been working so hard, but we often could not play in the French championship during the past month. I am happy for my players, because they can finally show the results of our daily hard work and because for the first time, the mood inside the court was what we are looking for. The Champions League is our dream and when you play in such an important competition you have to let your dream come true. I just want to say 'thank you' to my staff and to my players, because it was a great game." - Francois Salvagni, head coach ot ASPTT Mulhouse

We have to admit that Mulhouse played some very good volleyball today. Our blocking was not at its usual level and that affected our defence as well, especially in the second and the third sets. So it was a tough start for was, but we have to look ahead. to the next matches, against teams that are much stronger physically. We will prepare for them and we'll go for the win."
