Trentino Itas

- The first match of the second half of the season of Pool D of the 2023 CEV Champions League between Trentino Itas and Grupa Azoty Kedzierzyn-Kozle will take place on Thursday 15th at 8.30 pm at the BLM Group Arena in Trento. The hosts arrive at this appointment fresh from their second place at the 2022 Club World Cup on Sunday in Betim, Brazil, and as leaders of the group standings, the only team still unbeaten. The Czech team, on the other hand, is fresh from its first victory of the season in Europe, obtained at the end of November at home against Menen

- Trentino Itas intends to win this match; in the event of success with any scoreline it would already be mathematically qualified for the Playoffs of the tournament two days in advance because it would obtain its fourth victory and would therefore be sure of at least the second place, given that the third in the standings is precisely Karlovarsko (only one victory)

- For CEZ Karlovarsko this is the second match in its history at the BLM Group Arena, the first one it played two years earlier (3 December 2020), losing 3-1 in a match also valid for the group stage of the CEV Champions League

- Against teams from the Czech Republic, Trentino Volley has always been successful: eight victories in as many official matches, taking into account also the four wins against Ceske Budejovice, one won against Pribram in the qualifying phase of the 2005 CEV Cup and the three won against Karlovarsko (the last one a month ago in Karlovy Vary 3-1)

- Trentino Itas will face the match without only their spiker Oreste Cavuto, who has been out for almost a month due to an abdominal injury.

‘We want to keep running in the Champions League and the only way to do that is to win without losing any point. We know well the value of the opponent, who already in the first match a month ago had been able to put us in difficulty, but in front of our audience we must impose our game; this is a delicate match, we have just returned from Brazil and we will not have great energies at our disposal. The mental component will therefore have to make the difference'.

Match Report

TRENTINO Itas v ČEZ KARLOVARSKO

Article
  1. Few hours from the return from Brazil, (where the team won the silver medal in the Cup World Championship 2022 on Sunday evening) Trentino Itas won against CEZ karlovarsko. In the first match of the return leg: the final score is 3-0 that allows the Italian team to remain on the top of the ranking with full score; they therefore beated Grupa Azoty Kedzierzyn-Kozle (that won over Menen on Wednesday)
  2. With tonight’s victory Trentino Itas has already mathematically conquered the qualification to the playoffs of the tournament with two match days in advance. With such a result, at least the second position in the standing of their own group is already safe. Even if they lose the next two away matches that will be played on January 11th against Menen and 25th against Kedzierzyn-Kozle
  3. MVP of the match is Alessandro Michieletto; the Italian setter confirmed the great physical condition that has been shown also in Brazil by closing the match as best scorer: 15 points with the 58% in attack, 3 blocks and 1 ace
  4. In tonight’s match Itas Trentino’s Coach has done a great turnover, giving a break to two players such as Lavia and Kaziyski that on the last period played in many matches. Nelli (12 points) and Dzavoronok (former player of CEZ Karlovarsko) played instead, whom repayed the trust of their Coach
  5. Tonight’s success confirms the positive tradition of Trentino Volley winning over the Czech Republic teams: nine successes in as many games also taking into account the four wins over Ceske Budejovice and one victory against Pribram.

‘We played a precise and focused match and that should not be taken for granted, considering the fact that we have travelled and played a lot in the last few days. I’m satisfied with the performance of my players and particularly of Alessandro Michieletto, who tonight was the Captain of the team.’

Angelo Lorenzetti
Head Coach TRENTINO Itas

“It's really hard to say something today. We never got into the game. The home team played well in the sideout phase not allowing us to have break points”
