Last night saw the conclusion of Round 2 of the CEV Champions League Volley 2022 – Women, the penultimate of the early rounds, and the confirmation of the four teams still in the race for the coveted two spots in the Pool Phase of the competition.

Olympiacos and Viteos join Round 3

After confirmation of qualification obtained by ZOK UB (SRB) and SC Prometey Dnipro (UKR) following Wednesday’s matches, Viteos Neuchatel UC and Olympiacos Piraeus were looking to build on wins from the first leg ties to secure their own qualification into the next round, and so they did.

Despite winning two sets away in Greece, Minchanka Minsk (BLR) was not able to repeat the performance from that match and fell short on the night, losing in straight sets in a match lasting a mere 76 minutes. For Olympiacos it was Cuban Wilma Salas Rosell at the helm once again, with another MVP worthy performance as she managed 23 points to push her team into Round 3.

In Halle de Sports de la Riveraine in Neuchatel, the local team hosted Mladost Zagreb (CRO) having a seemingly comfortable cushion following their straight sets win obtained away in Zagreb the previous week. Despite a much improved performance from the Croatians, the qualification never seemed to be quite within their reach, the match ending with yet another defeat (3-2/ 25-20, 25-17, 19-25, 21-25, 15-10).

Amazing energy from the crowd in Neuchatel (SUI)

In the last of the preliminary rounds, ZOK UB will be facing Olympiacos Piraeus while Viteos Neuchatel UC will go up against SC Prometey Dnipro. The winners of these matchups will advance into the Pool Phase of Europe’s premiere club competition.
