Perugia vs Trento for a place in the Champions League Volley SuperFinals
News
This all-Italian semi-final brings together two teams with a growing history of European encounters on top of the numerous domestic meetings across the years. A repeat of last year’s semis, won by Trentino, the matchup promises to provide fans across the world with as much grit and tension as ever before.
This year has brought us a very dominant Perugia side, among its victims in the group stage being Trentino whom they defeated twice in straight sets, Polish superstar player, Wilfredo Leon managing a staggering 41 points across the two matches.
Sporting a W8-L3 record against Italian Teams in the Champions League, Perugia will be confident they can add one more to the winning side of that record especially with the first match taking place in their own arena.
On the other side, Trentino has won just one of their last eight matches against Italian opposition, the semi-final against Perugia last year and will undoubtedly look at this two-match tie as a whole, trying to go into the second match in Trento from the most advantageous position possible.
Despite having a strong team almost every season, Perugia’s only presence in the Finals was in 2017, when they eliminated yet another Italian team, Cucine Lube Civitanova to advance to the final round. They were close however on several occasions, having been eliminated in the semi-finals no less than three times (2017/18, 2018/19 and 2020/21).
Trentino Itas is one of the most successful teams in the history of the CEV Champions League Volley, having won the title an impressive three times, in consecutive editions from 2008/09 to 2010/11 while also claiming a top-three finish in 2011/12 (3rd), 2015/16 (2nd) and 2020/21 (2nd).
