The Final Four is always intense.
But for VakifBank Istanbul, this one carries a different weight.

On home soil, in front of their own supporters, one of Europe’s most successful clubs will attempt to add another chapter to a history already rich with silverware. Istanbul is not just the location; it is a setting that deepens the significance of the moment.

And for VakifBank, it arrives at the end of a season built on both balance and belief.

VakifBank reached the Final Four after surviving multiple five-set battles across Europe and Türkiye

Their campaign has highlighted one of the team’s defining qualities: shared responsibility. Rather than relying on a single high-volume scorer, VakifBank have spread the offensive load across the roster, creating a system that is adaptable and difficult to contain.

That structure has been central to their success.

Marina Markova’s rise has been one of the clearest indicators. Ranked among the competition’s top scorers with 174 points, she has become a vital attacking presence while embracing a broader leadership role.

“I see my role as one of the leaders in the team,” Markova said. “Being reliable for the team was one of my goals. Attack is my strongest suit, but as an outside hitter, I have to contribute in other parts of the game as well.”

Her performances have added another dimension to a roster already rich in experience and talent. Alongside established stars, Markova’s consistency has strengthened an offensive system that thrives on variety.

For her, that balance benefits everyone.

“Having a great balance in the team benefits everybody, especially setters,” she explained. “Having multiple options for attack gives them opportunities to showcase their talent and strategic minds.”

That versatility is precisely what separates VakifBank from many of their rivals.

Under Giovanni Guidetti, the team has evolved into one that values structure as much as star power. Every position is built to contribute, every phase designed to support the collective rhythm.

And when matches become tight, that system becomes even more important.

“Confidence is important, but it’s not everything,” Markova noted. “You can be very confident and still be unprepared.”

It is a statement that captures VakifBank’s approach at this stage of the season, confidence grounded in preparation, not assumption.

Guidetti shares the same view.

“At this stage, we talk about the best teams in Europe,” he said. “The difference is made from the quality that the team can express in the semifinal and final matches.”

In other words, talent may bring teams to the Final Four, but execution on the day decides everything.

That understanding is especially important in a competition where margins are razor-thin. Every opponent arrives with elite players, refined systems, and championship ambitions.

“The teams in the Final Four are all very strong with good systems,” Markova said. “I believe it’s going to be a great fight in both semifinals.”

For VakifBank, the challenge is clear, and so is the opportunity.

Playing in Istanbul adds emotion, but also responsibility. Yet this is a team accustomed to expectation and capable of turning pressure into purpose.

As Guidetti put it: “The pressure is a privilege that we deserve.”

Those words carry the confidence of a club that understands what it means to compete at the highest level.

VakifBank are not entering the Final Four as hopeful participants. They arrive as contenders shaped by adversity, strengthened by collective power, and driven by the chance to succeed on home court.

And in Istanbul, they will seek to prove that shared power can still deliver singular glory.

For Guidetti, pressure in Istanbul is not a burden, it is “a privilege that we deserve.”
