Dos Hermanas to experience #CLVolleyW as Fundación Cajasol hosts return leg

Dos Hermanas, and more specifically Montequinto, is set to experience a true celebration of Volleyball as it hosts the return leg of the CEV Champions League Volley 2’27 Women Round 2. This Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., Fundación Cajasol ANDALUCÍA will welcome FC PORTO to the Montequinto Sports Complex for a match in Europe’s premier club Volleyball competition.
The home side will be looking to overturn a 1-3 defeat suffered in the first leg in Portugal. Under the new regulations, Ricardo Torronteras’ team must win the match – regardless of the scoreline – to force a 15-point Golden Set, which would then determine which team advances to the next round.
The Dos Hermanas-based club has moved its home fixture to Montequinto in order to comply with the strict CEV Champions League venue requirements, as the ceiling height at its usual home arena, Los Montecillos, does not meet the competition’s standards.
Following an invitation from Dos Hermanas City Council to stage this historic match in the city, the entire Montequinto Municipal Sports Complex has been adapted to make it possible for the team to compete in its hometown, even if not at its traditional home venue.
This has required an enormous effort from the club, its sponsors and, in particular, the public institutions and Fundación Cajasol, whose support has been essential in making this historic occasion possible.
Ricardo Torronteras’ team heads into the encounter full of confidence following Saturday’s 3-1 Liga Iberdrola victory over Fedes Ascensores LA LAGUNA. That result has helped the team climb the league standings and maintained its perfect home record, with as many victories as matches played.
Despite the first-leg defeat against FC PORTO, the team’s performance in Portugal was highly encouraging. Fundación Cajasol ANDALUCÍA competed on equal terms with one of the most historic clubs in Portuguese Volleyball. Their impressive display and the opportunities they created throughout the match provide plenty of reasons for optimism as they prepare to fight for a place in the next round.
Meanwhile, FC PORTO secured a 3-0 victory in its latest domestic league fixture, maintaining its unbeaten record without dropping a single set. The Portuguese side also recently defeated SC BRAGA to win the Portuguese Super Cup, thereby adding another trophy to its domestic league and Portuguese Cup titles.
Should Fundación Cajasol ANDALUCÍA win Wednesday’s match, a 15-point Golden Set will decide which team progresses to the next round of the Champions League. In the event of defeat, the Spanish side will continue its European campaign in the CEV Cup, which begins in late November.
It promises to be a historic occasion and an unforgettable atmosphere in Dos Hermanas, as the city prepares to host a CEV Champions League match for the very first time, thus bringing Europe’s most prestigious club Volleyball competition to the heart of Andalusia.
