"These are the matches that everybody want to play. The matches against the two best teams in the world. VakifBank demonstrated to be at the top level in every season. By our side we want to play a cocky game but more aware of our potentials, counting on some players that are back. To win and reach one of our goals in this season, we need to play our best volleyball starting from the serve. We need to limitate the attacks of Haak, Gabi, Bartsch counting on our patience."

Marco Gaspari
Head Coach Vero Volley MONZA

"We know that VakifBank is one of the best team in the world, but we want to show our qualities to trying win this important match. In my opinion serve and attack could be our weapons to put them in troubles. VakifBank receives and blocks very well, that's why we need to push in attack as much as we can. At this moment we feel good as a team. We are feeling positive vibes and this is a really good thing that I like".

Match Report

VakifBank ISTANBUL upset Vero Volley Monza and book a spot in quarterfinals

Article

European evening without glory for Vero Volley Monza which, in the sold-out of the Monza Arena, starts very strong but stopped his run by world champions of VakifBank Istanbul. In the fifth match of Pool B of the CEV Champions League, the turkish team leads by Giovanni Guidetti wins 3-1, counting on patience and the extraordinary qualities of its interpreters to roll out the first women's team of the Consorzio Vero Volley. The fabulous approach of Monza, led by a massive Stysiak in the offensive phase, the defense of an omnipresent Parrocchiale and the central high pitches of Danesi and Rettke, absolute debut for the American with the pink-blue jersey, surprise the VakifBank and are decisive for winning the first set. The guests, however, with the precise direction of Gulubay, preferred to Ozbay, gradually transform themselves from the second game onwards, starting to put pressure from nine meters, with Bartsch-Hackley, Gabi and Haak pushing very hard, and demolishing the certainties of Vero Volley. Settled the scores, Istanbul opens a wide highway to success, with Gaspari's team unable to react, despite the generosity of its athletes to try to the end, and thus abandoning the chance of grabbing the first place of the pool. Monza must win in Finland against Salo to try to qualify for the quarter-finals among the best runners-up, while VakifBank is already sure of reaching the next round of the top continental club competition.

"Monza started off really well: they pushed a lot with the serve and had a great defense and great attack. We knew we needed patience tonight and in the end, we changed attitude, putting more energy, and becoming more aggressive. We won this important match and I am so proud of my team".

Isabelle Haak
opposite of VakifBank Istanbul

"We expected a different match, especially for the duration. We can express a different volleyball, more efficient and solid than tonight. We know that if they want to push they are able to do it with continuity. We are a bit sad for our performance: now we need to reflect of what we missed".

Alessia Gennari
outside spiker of Vero Volley Monza
