    Halkbank ANKARA v Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA

    The first Quarter Final match of Men’s CEV Champions League 2023 gave us an amazing thrill. Halkbank ANKARA defeated the Italian team Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-21) in Ankara and gained the advantage.

    In the first set, the Halkbank took an early lead (7-3) and already had four points of the advantage. As early in the game as they were, Civitanova managed to get back to 8-8 and then the cat-and-mouse type of match begin. It was played completely point-by-point until Civitanova took the lead (14-15) and from that point on they led until the very end of the set. They won it by 21-25 and with four kill blocks and two aces!

    The second set started off the same as the first one with the lead of Halkbank (7-4) and soon enough Civitanova managed to equalize the score (10-10). After that, it was played completely point-by-point but Halkbank didn’t let Civitanova take the lead as they did in the previous set. They were always one point ahead or there was an equalized score, but Halkbank managed to keep the advantage until the end and even locked the set with +5 points (25-20).

    The third set started off as a point-by-point play although Civitanova was almost always one point ahead of Halkbank. The Italian team managed to separate from the Turkish and they had four points of advantage (9-13). But Halkbank managed to get back once again and they took the lead (15-14) which they kept until the very end and they’ve taken their second set by 25-23.

    The Italian team entered very well in the fourth and last set and they were in the lead. But not for long because Halkbank was in a good position and they wanted to seal the deal in this set, which they managed to do. Civitanova was fighting hard, with five kill blocks in this set itself, but it wasn’t enough for the Italians to turn over the result and Halkbank managed to take another set and win the whole match 25-21.

    The most valuable player of the match was Thomas Jaeschke from Halkbank ANKARA. And this was his first time in a Champions League with a Halkbank jersey!
