With a fantastic 12 kill blocks over the three sets of the match, Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul’s American middle blocker Chiaka Ogbogu powered her team on the way to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-14) shutout of Dinamo Moscow in the last match of their home tournament in Pool D. Unbeaten in three matches, the Turkish powerhouse topped the current standings, while the Russian standout are tight with Germany’s Allianz MTV Stuttgart at the bottom on a 1-2 win-loss record, 3 ranking points and 5-8 in sets.

Two four-point runs gave Eczacibasi the edge they needed (10-5) to cruise comfortably through the rest of the first set. Tijana Boskovic kept the power spikes coming and scored as many as eight points towards the 25-18 win, shaped up by setter Elif Sahin with an elegant tip on second touch for the last point.

The second set was quite competitive through 10-10, after which the home team took the lead for good. Chiaka Ogbogu was having a field day at the net piling up as many as five kill blocks towards a seven-point total in the set. Jordan Thompson also scored seven points, including the winner for 25-20.

The third set was completely one-sided. Ogbogu and her teammates continued stop Dinamo’s attacks at the net as Eczacibasi opened the gap and extended it 25-14 at the end of the set.

Chiaka Ogbogu scored an out-of-this-world total of 12 blocking points over the three sets of the game to top the scorers’ chart on a total of 18 points. Eczacibasi’s playmaker Elif Sahin was named MVP of the match.
