Overview

Today another challenging match will be played at 19:00 local time on the Bulgarian court of Vassil Levski PAZARDJIK.

 

Hebar PAZARDZHIK, which debuted in the Champions League group stage on November 30th, will play against VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN.

In their first match of the 4th Round in the premier European competition for clubs, Hebar PAZARDZHIK was outclassed in three sets by the polish team JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel.

Also, VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN lost 2- 3 against Knack ROESELARE. 

Both teams now will try to claim a victory and go onwards in Pool A. 

Hebar PAZARDZHIK can count on the experience of Camillo Placi, who led his team to win the Bulgarian Supercup in 2021, and of players like Jacopo Massari, who strongly contributed to the qualification of his team in the group stage of the Champions League. Also, Teodor Salparov was the second top receiver in the match against Jastrzebski Wegiel.

 

On the other hand, fB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN is the only team in CEV Volleyball Champions League taking part in the competition from the very beginning. The German team can take advantage of players like Vojin Cacic and Simon Hirsch, who were among the best ones in the match against Knack ROESELARE, and Dejan Vincic, who recently won the silver medal at EuroVolley 2021 with the Slovenian national team.

Today, 16 December is the last match day of the year in the CEV Champions League Volley Men, with the competition scheduled to return on 11 January 2022.

Today has brought volleyball of the highest quality during the match between Hebar PAZARDZHIK and VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN.

The match began with some mistakes for the German team: a net and two balls out made the Coach call for the first time out. Opponents were not discouraged and claimed a 9-5. Hebar PAZARDZHIK came back with 10-5, and after a challenge, scored another point (11-5). A series of mistakes in receipt for VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN led the match to 15-7. Then, Hebar PAZARDZHIK escaped to the opponents' control and flew to 22-12, leaving VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN 10 points behind and claiming the victory of the first set 25 to 13.


The second set saw the comeback from the opponents, who began to take control of the situation, but then Hebar PAZARDZHIK started to react. Time out was called for the Bulgarian team, as the match was 12-16 for the German team. A mistake for Hebar led the ball out, and the situation was 14-18, with VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN in vantage. A Super spike for VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN made the team continue in gaining points, but then a wrong monster block by the German team made the situation unstable (15-19). The two teams continued their battle head to head (16-22, then 18-23) until VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN won the second set.

In the third set, a controversial challenge caused the whistles of the home fans. Hebar PAZARDZHIK tried to come back, and an ace by Massari led the game to 16-17. Cacic scored 3 points in a row; 5 points of difference separated the two teams. VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN was near to win the set, but then Hebar brought the situation 20 to 24. Still, VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN didn't let their opponents win this time.


The fourth set saw 10 points of difference between the two teams at the very beginning: 9-19. Hebar PAZARDZHIK didn't make the opponents score the point quickly this time, and they overcame the German team: 10-20. After an intense battle, an ace brought the situation to 21-10, and eventually, after Hebar PAZARDZHIK scored the set point.

The fifth set was played again with a fierce struggle and a challenge initially. The teams always tried to equalize the respective opponents and come head-to head. Hebar took advantage of 14-11, and the home fans were in a frenzy. Nothing can stop the home team from claiming a comprehensive win in the decisive set.


Jacopo Massari was chosen as MVP with 20 points to his name, and he was the top scorer and top attacker. Nikolay KARTEV  was the top server, while Bradley Gunter was the top server.

 

After the game, Camillo Placi has gifted a new antenna to the young player of the team David Kristev who has broken it down through the warm-up.
For the first time in 2 years, thanks to the Government rules, "Vasil Levski" hall was full almost to the maximum capacity.
