Maritza PLOVDIV
• Bulgaria’s Maritza Plovdiv and Romania’s CSM Targoviste have met in an official game only once before. On October 5, 2014 in Ankara, Targoviste claimed a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-17) victory over the Yellow-and-Blues in a BVA Cup match.
• The two teams also played four friendly matches some two years ago. In October 2020, Targoviste beat Maritza twice (3-1, 3-0) at home, and in January 20221 Maritza won the first of two games played in Plovdiv by 3-2 and lost the second by 1-3.
• Maritza and Targoviste are set to vie for their first win in Pool E of the women’s CEV Champions League Volley 2023, as they enter their match on a 0-2 win-loss record each.
• Unlike the Bulgarian champions who have yet to win a set, Targoviste scored its first point by claiming two sets against Poland’s Grupa Azoty Chemik Police at home in its second-leg match last month.
• Targoviste’s line-up has undergone some changes since then. Canadian setter Kim Robitaille has been replaced by Belgian international Ilka Van de Vyver. Greek middle blocker Georgia Lamprousi has also left the club.
• Maritza leads the current standings in the Bulgarian Demax National Volleyball League after the first half of the regular season without losing a single set in seven matches played, thus extending its amazing winning streak in the league to 144 consecutive matches since November 21, 2015.
• Targoviste will visit Bulgaria’s second largest and Europe’s oldest living city Plovdiv while standing fourth in Romania’s Divizia A1 on a 7-3 win-loss record.

Maritza PLOVDIV v C.S.M. TARGOVISTE
Borislav Krachanov“Unfortunately, we failed to withstand the opponents’ serving. From the very beginning we lost focus in reception and this is where all our headaches came from. When we managed to stabilize it in the third set, things started happening, but it was too late. We already had our backs against the wall and the risks we were forced to take did not pay off.”
Head coach of Maritza PLOVDIV
Mira Todorova“For me personally, it was a very emotional match. It is always a great pleasure to play in Plovdiv. This is the second time I play against Maritza and the feeling is very exciting. The Maritza girls have a great potential and I believe that within a year or two they will be able to play as equals against many Champions League teams. I like how they play and I hope to have the opportunity to play alongside some of them in the future.”
