CEV Champions League Volley 2021 | Men
Born in Contagem (BRA) on February 14, 1992, Ricardo Lucarelli Santos De Souza, better know in the Volleyball world as Lucarelli, has been shining in his first season abroad, playing for the Italian Powerhouse TRENTINO Itas. The Brazilian star became a pillar in Angelo Lorenzetti’s team on the way to the #CLVolleyM #SuperFinals, and will be one of the players to watch out on May 1, when the Grand Finale of Europe’s elite competition takes place. Lucarelli and his teammates will face the inspired Polish Grupa Azoty Zaksa KĘDZIERZYN KOŹLE, and the Volleyball community is looking forward to an amazing show in Verona.
Volleyball means almost everything to Lucarelli, and makes him happy, as he had mentioned various times during his long career that started back in 2005. Before joining the Italian giant of Trento, Lucarelli has been playing only in Brazilian teams (Meritus, Minas Tenis Clube, Sesi Sao Paulo, and Funvic Taubaté), becoming one of the biggest stars of Brazilian Volleyball. On a club level, 2019 was his year, when he won together with his Funvic Taubaté the championship, got the MVP award and was named Best Outside Spiker.
The first season with TRENTINO is filled with new experiences on both professional and personal level. Talking to former Volleyball stars Andrea Zorzi and Andrea Brogioni, who host the weekly ‘After hours’ show, Lucarelli shared about the emotion of seeing snow for a very first time, and learning Italian. On the sports field, the Brazilian has played in 43 matches for TRENTINO this season, recording 470 points to his name.
Lucarelli will have also a brand-new experience on the international stage, fighting for the Gold in #CLVolleyM - an accomplishment that many players don’t have the luck to experience during their career. On the way to the #SuperFinals, Lucarelli, together with Nimir Abdel-Aziz, has topped the charts for his TRENTINO, appearing in 13 matches, scoring 124 times (2.82 average per set). He also has been performing well on block and on serve (12 blocks and 12 aces).
Lucarelli has been one of the most awarded outside spikers on an international level, having played in 197 matches so far. In the long list of achievements, he has awards for Best Outside Spiker at the World League 2013, 2014, 2017, MVP of World Grand Champions Cup 2017, Gold medal from World Grand Champions Cup 2013, 2016, Gold medal from World Cup 2019 and many more.
Olympic champion from Rio 2016, the Best Outside Spiker of the Games says that the final vs Italy (won by Brazil 3-0), remains his favourite match. Should his TRENTINO claim the #CLVolleyM trophy on May 1, Lucarelli might have the chance to reconsider this, or at least, add to his list of best games a new one.
