Britt Herbots on The Ace Space
Quotes
Power hitter Britt Herbots of NOVARA and Belgium joined Dave and Ci on our End of the Year podcast special where they chatted over the year that was 2020, as well as answered some questions from fans.
Here are some of her top quotes from the conversation.
On getting back to playing“It feels really good to be back. Without the fans it is weird, for sure it's weird with the empty gyms, but we are so happy that we are able to play again. At least we are able to do what we love to do.”
On their season so far“The season is going good so far. We are second in the Italian league and have won our first three Champions League matches so we will keep working like we are doing and hope to go as far as possible.”
On the “new NOVARA”“It was difficult at the start because the team was pretty new with lots of new players. We had to form like a real group and you could see at the start of the season that we had to find our rhythm. Now we are in a place where we are doing well and where I think we deserve to be.”
On NYE plans and partying"We will do something together with those who cannot go home to celebrate. The last few years New Years was never a big thing as usually there is a tough schedule around that time so we keep is simple. Like last year we had the Olympic qualifiers. During the season I am more like easy/simple, we can celebrate after a win but I am not the party animal of the team."
On her favourite win so far"The CEV Cup Final three years ago with Busto. I think that was the best until now. They did so much with the gym, they got all the lights off and the atmosphere was amazing. A full gym and the feeling of it being a Final made it feel great." [she was also MVP!]
On which match made her most upset after losing"I think it was in January with the qualifications for the Olympics. I mean we knew that there were teams better than us but we played such a good tournament and had a 3-2 against Turkey. So knowing we were so close to going to the semi-finals, even if we knew the time wasn't right for us to go any further, it made me really upset as we only needed a little more..."
On whether she can take Belgium to an Olympics"It would be a dream. I think we have a young team and can build a good team. But going to the Olympics is always really hard, especially for European teams as there are only a few allowed. So it's going to be really hard but for sure that is the dream."
