Luxembourg, November 2, 2020. With the 4th Round of Europe's premiere club competition, the CEV Champions League Volley, fast approaching, the latest episode of the Ace Space Podcast offers a preview to what is going to be a very unique season.

Taking centre stage of the show as always was Brazilian star Outside Spiker Gabriela BRAGA GUIMARAES and here are some of her top quotes from the conversation.

"It was a dream to play outside of Brazil, to have a new experience, so it was not just for Gabi the athlete, but also for Gabi the person. The opportunity came for me to join VakifBank, so how would I say not to one of the biggest clubs in the world?!"

On moving to Europe

"The opportunity to play for Giovanni Guidetti and with these great players was amazing. Also to play against the best players in the world was really amazing. It was a dream come true with different responsibilities for me as a player. Of course we start with a different team but I felt like we had a really good connection. It was sad we did not get to end the season..."

On unfinished business in 2020

“One of my dreams was to win a Champions League. It was totally new to play this competition and it was difficult for us as we tried to find the right connection. Then we start to put ourselves in a different situation by playing better. It was everything that I wanted to have when I came to Europe.”

On competing in the Champions League

“I learnt a lot because I saw different things that usually we don’t see in Brazil. It was really a challenge for me playing a different way. Also a lot had not played against me so I took the opportunity to do things that they do not know.”

On facing new faces and playing new players

“It was really difficult to hear that, because we had a plan but then you hear it is not that. Now we have less than 1 year to prepare for the Olympic Games, so I am thinking what I have to do to be ready to play. I feel that I need to start again with a challenge as I was really excited to play this year.”

Tokyo 2020 Olympics being postponed

"“This was exactly when I started to play Volleyball. I played many sports but as soon as I saw that generation play I said ok, this is my new dream – before it was to just represent my country.”

On watching Brazil win Gold in 2008

"Usually I put all my efforts on Volleyball, but in this break I am trying to find other things as now I have time. Normally I just watch series on tv but now I start to try to draw so let's see if I have some talent."

Away from Volleyball

I am not this type of leader who says a lot but I try to be positive and give some good energy to the team. I try to be positive, even in bad moments. I try to push and if I make some mistake just think I will have another opportunity."

On being a leader

"Many important moments, I think 'how will this be'. But when my thoughts are bad I say positive things. I am doing everything in practise, I prepare everyday. I try always to work with my mind as more than have of what we do is with the mind."

On having insecurities

"Fans are so important and I try to have this connection with them. They make the sport so important. I have amazing fans, in the good and the bad moments, so I try to give something back. I had my own idols so know how much it means."
