Asterix Avo BEVEREN started furiously in the season opener of the CEV Champions League Volley 2022, claiming the first set in Piraeus against Olympiacos. However, the hosts from Greece recovered quickly and won the following three sets to seal a 3-1 home victory. The re-match is due to come up on Tuesday late afternoon at Topsporthal in Beveren.

Jutta Van de Vyver has high hopes for the re-match with Olympiacos on home soil

Asterix Avo captain Jutta Van de Vyver looks back on the away game:

“I was positively surprised by the level of play that our young team was able to produce, after only a very short preparation. We lost the final set only by two points, and this gives us hope for the return game. It may be too optimistic to say that we will be able to surprise this strong Greek team in front of our home crowd. We will have to repeat at least the level of the first match, improve several details, and execute our actions a little more precisely.”

Asterix Avo did very well in the first matchup with Olympiacos

Coach Kris Vansnick has worked hard with his team to learn from the first game. “Olympiacos has been warned about the strength of our team, and I am sure that their staff has analysed the first game in great detail, and will develop their plan accordingly. They will not underestimate us. We will have to play without complexes, and if all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place, it will be a very exciting game on Tuesday evening.”
