On Tuesday, the Polish Developres RZESZÓW seized an important victory in Pool A of Champions League Volley - Women, and with 10 points, keep the first position in the group after four matches played. The players around head coach Stephane Antiga outclassed in three sets the Ukrainian SC Prometey Dnipro, and are getting closer to the next stage of Europe’s elite competition.

Developres remain the only unbeaten team in Pool A, while the guests, on the other hand, are with no victories so far, and keep the last position in the group, having no chances of continuing ahead.

Overall, the hosts showed better performance in deciding moments. However, the players led by head coach Ivan Petkov had their chances especially in the second set, when they put up a real fight, claiming the leadership role as well. The Polish, however, showed nerves of steel and turned things around.

Selfie time for the winners

Statistically, Developres RZESZÓW proved better in attack (45 to 35 winning spikes, 42% efficiency on this element) and aced seven times (compared to three by their opponents). The guests showed better skills on the block (10 to eight) and seized more on their opponents errors (14 to 12).

  • Developres RZESZÓW began better in the first set, but at 7-7 Prometey started breathing their opponents’ necks. It was Jelena Blagojevic of the hosts team who shined in these moments, making a difference on the serve. Thanks to her good performance on this element, Developres took back the leadership in the set. Blagojevic finished with two aces in this part. The Ukrainian team pushed in the last minutes, but Diana Meliushkyna with a serve error helped the team of Rzeszow to open in their favour.

  • The guests stood much better on the court in the beginning of the second set, and spectators in RCWS Podpromie RZESZÓW could enjoy some interesting rallies. Both coaches had a “tactical war” in the last minutes of the set, taking some time outs. It worked out better for the hosts, who emerged victorious.

  • Inspired, Developres controlled completely the third set and congratulated themselves with the win.

  • Kara Bajema with 18 points to her name was chosen MVP of the game.
