The team captain and setter of Asterix Avo BEVEREN, Jutta Van de Vyver, was born and raised in a 100% Volleyball environment.

Jutta Van de Vyver is the latest member of a real Volleyball family to pursue an international career in the sport

Jutta started playing Volleyball already at the very young age of seven, inspired by her parents who are both very active in Belgian Volleyball. Her mother, Kato, was with Asterix Kieldrecht from 1997 until 1999. Her father, Julien, is currently the head coach of Jaraco LVL GENK, which is due to compete in this year’s CEV Challenge Cup. He previously worked as an assistant coach with Asterix Kieldrecht, doing so from 2009 until 2015.

Jutta’s elder sister, Ilka, also plays Volleyball at the highest level, and is a setter too. She played with Asterix Kieldrecht from 2009 to 2012, and then departed for a career that has brought her to a number of different countries such as France, Italy, Slovenia and Romania. This season she plays for Allianz MTV STUTTGART, a contestant of the CEV Cup.

With Jutta playing in the CEV Champions League, a member of the same family is active in each of the three European Cup competitions.

Both sisters are members of the Belgian national team, the Yellow Tigers, and had a very intense summer season. During the Volleyball Nations League, they faced all of the world’s top national teams in Rimini, before contesting this year’s EuroVolley in Belgrade, where Belgium lost to eventual gold medal winners Italy in the 8th Finals.

Jutta has started her third consecutive season with Asterix Avo after making some big steps towards being a leading player on court.  Last year she managed, together with the team, to win all of the domestic competitions in Belgium.

The whole family is also very active in the development of young players. Jutta assists her parents, in the Volley4you and Volley+ projects, which introduce young children to Volleyball and run holiday clinics. To make her agenda completely full, Jutta is also the trainer-coach of one of the U17 youth teams of Asterix Avo. Finally, Jutta is a qualified welder too, but these skills, she cannot use when standing on the volleyball court.

In a few days only, Jutta Van de Vyver will be trying to help Asterix Avo BEVEREN reach the second round of the elite CEV Champions League Volley 2022 – when hosting Olympiacos PIRAEUS of Greece.
