Two Turkish giants will come face to face tonight in the semi-finals of the CEV champions League Volley Women and sparks will undoubtedly fly.

One of the most successful teams in the history of the competition, Vakifbank Istanbul is looking for yet another presence in the SuperFinals, which would extend their current record to an 8th presence in the final and another chance at becoming the sole record holder for most titles, with a potential 5th one making them surpass Volley Bergamo on four titles.

On the other side, Fenerbahçe Opet ISTANBUL is itself no stranger to the final act of the Champions League, having been there twice before, winning a title when they faced RC Cannes 10 years ago and loosing another when they face Volley Bergamo in 2010.

A fierce rivalry in the Turkish League, VakifBank ISTANBUL and Fenerbahçe Opet ISTANBUL have also met four times in the Champions League:  in the 2010/11 semi-finals, in the 2014/15 Playoffs 6 (twice) and in the 2015/16 semi-finals.

“We prepared very well. Fenerbahçe Opet is an opponent we know very well and so we know how difficult this match will be. They have a very special offensive power. We must pay attention to our serves and ensure that their attackers do not take a comfortable position. Our most important advantage will be that the first match will be in our home. We want to get the advantage for the second match with the support of our fans in our gym”.

“Vakıfbank is a very valuable competitor. Both teams know each other very well. I hope it will be a close, competitive fight. It will make the audience watch good volleyball and I hope we will pass the tour.”

Eda Erdem Dündar
