Preliminary Round 2 of the CEV Champions League Volley Men offered more than a few memorable moments on the way to confirming the remaining four teams that are left to battle it out in the last preliminary round for the two remaining places in the Pool Phase of the competition.

All CEV Champions League Volley matches are available live and on demand on CEV’s EuroVolley.TV.

Out of the four matchups of Round 2, the one that seems to have offered the most dominant performance was that between Dynamo Apeldoorn (NED) and Sport Lisboa e Benfica (POR). The Portuguese side stamped its authority from the first match, winning away from home and only dropping a set. That lost set was going to be the only one across the two matches, as Benfica moves into the next round full of confidence.

One of the most balanced matchups was that between SK Zadruga AICH/DOB (AUT) and Ford Levoranta Sastamala (FIN). No less than nine sets were required across the two legs of this tie to decide the winner, with the Austrians win at home in five sets not being enough however. In Finland, Sastamala looked a lot more in control of their game, despite losing the second set, getting through to the next round.

The Swiss from Lindaren Volley Amriswil and the Romanians from C.S Arcada Galati must be feeling like they lost an extremely good opportunity of attaining qualification following good wins and performances in the first matches of the ties against Mladost Zagreb and Hebar Pazardzhik, only to lose it all in Golden sets at the end of the second matches.

All eyes now on the final preliminary round for the men’s competition, as matches are scheduled to take place as early as next week. Four teams left, yet only two spots left open in the Pool Phase.
