Calcit KAMNIK lost 0-3 (13-25, 17-25, 20-25) in the first match of CEV Champions League opening round contested last week in Zagreb, but nothing is yet lost for the Slovenian reigning champions. In the return match coming up on Wednesday at 8 pm in Kamnik, they will have to beat Mladost 3-0 or 3-1, and then again in the eventual Golden Set that would follow. It’s not impossible, but not with the performance that they showed in Zagreb.

Calcit KAMNIK need to record a 3-0 or 3-1 home victory to stay in contention for a spot in the next round

In Zagreb, Calcit made as many as 29 errors, the Mladost players only 13, they had 45% reception, the Zagreb team had 51%, at the same time they were only 32% effective in attack, their opponents recorded a 47% success rate, they scored two aces, while the Croatian champions had seven. They were better only in the block, with which they reached four points; Astrid Popić scored all three for Mladost. All this will have to change on Wednesday if Calcit wants to level up the competition.

“In the first match, Mladost was a better team than us. Nothing to add here. We will see how it goes in the return leg. In any case, we will do everything to reach a more favourable result. No doubt, we will have to raise the level of our game not by one step, but at least by two, if we want to be competitive, so we have a very difficult match ahead of us. Above all, we will have to reduce the number of our own mistakes. This can be corrected with an even better work in training and a greater number of difficult matches,” Gregor Rozman, the coach of Calcit Volley, is leaving the role of favourites, at least judging by the first match, to the Zagreb team.

“Mladost showed in the first game that they are two classes better than us. However, we know where we were making mistakes in the first match, what we will have to correct, and if we are successful in this, we will be able to play with them on an equal footing, otherwise we will not have much of a chance to win."
