CEV Champions League Volley 2023 | Women
This weekend, all eyes will be again on the top domestic leagues of Europe, especially in Türkiye and Italy: While four teams will try to take the Turkish Cup triumph, Novara and Imoco will meet again in the Italian national league semifinals.
The final four of the Turkish Cup will take place this weekend: Firstly, the reigning champion of this tournament, this year’s SuperFinalist VakifBank Istanbul, will face Aydin Buyuksehir Belediyespor to secure their spot in the finals. After then, the semifinalist of the #CLVolleyW, Fenerbahce Opet Istanbul, will play against THY Istanbul in the second semifinals. All semifinal matches will be held on Saturday.
The winners of these two semifinals will once again take the court in the final clash on Sunday, and this year’s domestic cup champion will be determined in Türkiye. After a sensational victory over Fenerbahce in the rematch of the #CLVolleyW semifinals, VakifBank surely wants to repeat this success. On the other hand, Fenerbahce definitely intends to stand at the top of the podium and bring the cup back home after six years.
The Italian national league will continue with the second semifinal clash between the two CEV Champions League Volley participants, A. Carraro Imoco Volley Conegliano and Igor Gorgonzola Novara.
The champions of the last four editions, Imoco completed the main phase as leaders. They also passed their opponent in the quarterfinals without any difficulties. Novara finished the preliminary phase in fifth place, and by overpowering Reale Mutua Chieri ’76 by 2-0 in the quarterfinals, they secured their spot in the semifinals.
In the first semifinal battle, Imoco took a three-set victory over Novara and found a 1-0 lead in the series. Therefore, the Novara side has to win this rematch to keep their final hopes alive.
The other side of the draw is also worth following: Savino Del Bene Scandicci and Vero Volley Milano once again meet each other on Sunday. Scandicci is leading the series by 1-0 after a critical victory in four sets.
In addition, the finalists of the German 1. Bundesliga Women became clear this week. The leaders of the main season, Allianz MTV Stuttgart and third-placed SC Potsdam, will start to face off on the 2nd May to become the Champions of Germany.
The defending contenders of #CLVolleyW, VakifBank Istanbul is undoubtedly waiting for the SuperFinals in Turin, but they also seek to take another cup this weekend by passing their strong opponents. Likewise, the top four teams in Italy will try to secure their spots in the final round of their national league.
