The quality of the brain will definitely give a lot of information about the strength of the team, and this is exactly the case for Sir Sicoma Monini PERUGIA: Their star setter Simone Giannelli will play his second season in Perugia and with all his experience and talent, he will show epic sets throughout the #CLVolleyM.

Born in 1996, the star setter started his professional club career in Itas Trentino and stayed there for nine years. From 2012 to 2021, he won two silvers in the CEV Champions League Volley (in 2016, when he was also selected as the Best Setter of the tournament, and in 2021) as well as a CEV Cup (2019) and two FIVB Club World Championship titles (2013 and 2019).

Giannelli also received so many domestic successes in the national tournaments in his journey in Trentino: The talented star won Italian Serie A1, Italian Cup, and Italian Supercup trophies with his old team, and also many silver and bronze medals as well.

He also has a lot of individual awards in his highly respected career, but two of them clearly stand out: While the team standing at the top of the podium in the most significant two national tournaments is the same, the MVPs of these are not different as well.

Italy won the CEV EuroVolley 2021 against Slovenia after an epic five-set thriller, and the captain and the setter of the team, Giannelli, was honored as the MVP of the tournament. Showing similar success one year after, , while the Italian national team won the gold, no one but him was the MVP of the FIVB World Championship.

After remarkable achievements in Trentino and the Italian national team, a new journey was started for Giannelli last season. After long years in Trentino, he decided to join the Sir Sicoma Monini PERUGIA’s squad and continue their professional career there.

Besides finishing the Italian Cup on top, he also received a silver in the national league last year. He also played an unforgettable semifinal series against his previous team in the CEV Champions League Volley 2022, and after two five-setters, Perugia failed to win the Golden Set and completed the tournament for themselves without advancing to the finals.

This year, after an excellent national team season, the goal for Giannelli will definitely take the #CLVolleyM title, the only missing gold in his club career. His experience and talent will guide Perugia on the court, and he will pursue to make his best both in the national tournaments and CEV Champions League Volley.

The year will be long and challenging for Perugia, but the fans can’t wait to see what the reigning MVP of the EuroVolley can do this season in #CLVolleyM
