Another Champions League night is behind us! VakifBank ISTANBUL is now one step closer to going through to the Semi-Finals. The reigning Champions League champions secured a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-19, 25-17) over Vero Volley MILANO and the unbeaten track record for VakifBank continues!

After the match, the head coach of VakifBank Istanbul, Giovanni Guidetti, said that they were focused on blocks which are definitely shown in the statistics. They had 10 kill blocks in all three sets and on the other side, Vero Volley had – three.

The first set started off completely equally on both sides (13-13) where the chance to turn over the match had VakifBank with seven points in the row (from 17-15 to 23-15). At this point, the set was "finished" and they secured the win by 25-18.

The second set was a show done by VakifBank. They were in the lead since the first point and they did not let the advantage away until the end of the set (25-19). And the exact same thing happened in the last set where Milano looked as if they gave up. VakifBank was in the lead since the beginning and the advantage stayed on point until they closed the whole match by 25-17.

The MVP and the top scorer was Paola Egonu with 21 points.

"We played against a great team with great players. I'm very happy that my team has performed this way and pushed it that way from the start. We were very focused on the blocks and defense. I am really pleased."

Giovanni Guidetti
Head Coach of VakifBank Istanbul

In the Men’s Champions League competition, three Semi-Finalists are now known. Those are: JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel, Sir Sicoma Monini PERUGIA and Halkbank ANKARA.

It was a tough battle between Sir Sicoma Monini PERUGIA and BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys. PERUGIA have beaten BR Volleys 3-1 in the first leg of the Quarter-Final. And today history repeated itself. Italians had a better performance with 3-2 (24-26, 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 15-13).

The first set was completely equal on both sides. They were playing point-by-point and had a cat-and-mouse type of play. With amazing rallies and blocks, you just couldn’t tell which one was a better team because they were fighting like lions. And the set score showed that: 24-26 for BR Volleys.

The second set started in the favor of the Germans but it didn’t take a long time for Perugia to get back in the game (10-10). They turned over the set to their advantage (15-11) and although BR Volleys got pretty close (17-17), the Italians managed to separate once again and locked the set with 25-21.

The third set was completely equal, to the first one. Only at the very end, there was some difference where a team from Germany managed to secure an important set win by 22-25. The fourth set was going in the favor of Perugia. It started off, again, pretty equally but Perugia took the matters into their own hands and separated once again from the Germans who were breathing down their neck. And they’ve managed to do so by 25-17.

The MVP was Oleh Plotnytskyi with 18 scored points, three aces and the 61 % of attack.

In Semi-Finals Halkbank will play against Jastrzębski and Perugia will play against the better in tomorrow's match between TRENTINO Itas and Grupa Azoty KĘDZIERZYN-KOŹLE.
