CEV Champions League Volley 2024 | Men
VakifBank Istanbul - PGE Rysice Rzeszow
Tonight marked the last tickets to the quarterfinals for both women and men. VakifBank defeated their opponents on their home turf with a score of 3:0, so Rzeszow faced an extremely difficult task - to win 3 sets on the Turkish team's home court.
From the first set, it became clear that this would be very challenging. With the score at 13:9, the Polish team's game faltered, and VakifBank managed to pull off a streak of 8 consecutive successful attacks. They won the first set with a score of 25:12. In the second set, Rzeszow unfortunately couldn't demonstrate an impressive attack, as their performance in this component was nearly twice as poor as that of their opponents, although their blocking and serving were equally matched. Nonetheless, the second set also went to the Turkish team. The third set turned out to be the most interesting, as it seemed that the Polish team found a way to counter their opponents, committing fewer errors and playing much better in attack. It seemed highly unlikely to stage a comeback from 9:18, but VakifBank once again unleashed a fantastic series of attacks, caught up with their opponents, and won the set and the match with a score of 3:0. Thus, the Turkish team advances to the quarterfinals, where they will meet A. Carraro Imoco CONEGLIANO.
Match MVP Alexandra Annelise FRANTTI with 12 points scored.
Gabi GuimaraesWe made a significant step, especially playing at home. I was thrilled to see the gym packed with fans. They provided us with energy right from the start of the match, which showed in our consistency, especially in the first and third sets where we managed to turn the game around. We have a lot to improve, but I'm proud of how the team has progressed since the beginning of the season, and we know we're up against strong opponents. We need to keep working hard.
Tours VB - BERLIN Recycling Volleys
The Germans played at home the first round, won 3:1, and faced a tough task to play away as well.
The beginning of the match was quite even, making it difficult to determine the leader on the court. The teams reached the end with parity, but BERLIN Recycling Volleys proved luckier. In the second set, the French seemed to lose momentum, allowing BERLIN Recycling Volleys to pull ahead by 6 points towards the end of the set. With a score of 20:14, it was challenging to create intrigue in this set. The Berlin team won this set and gathered the necessary points to advance to the quarterfinals.
Although the third set didn't ultimately determine the fate of the teams, the home team fought tooth and nail for every point. In this sense, this game was somewhat similar to the just-concluded women's match. Both teams reached the end of the set with equal points, with the French performing better in the attack, but they made a series of errors towards the end of the game, preventing them from continuing the fight in this match. The final score was 3:0. BERLIN Recycling Volleys advance to the next stage, where they will meet Trentino Itas.
Match MVP Marek Sotola with his 11 points scored.
