Bulgaria's Maritza Plovdiv made history last night when the team secured a place in the quarterfinals of the CEV Volleyball Cup, continuing their European volleyball journey coming out of the pool phase for the first time.

The Bulgarians, a team with eight participations in he pool phase of the Champions League, will be more than happy with their performance this season, overturning what had been a tricky history of participations.

Before this season, Maritza Plovdiv had managed only 1 win in their last 24 matches in the competition, a 3-2 win versus Vasas Óbuda BUDAPEST on 29 November 2023. Out of their last 13 CEV Champions League matches, that is the only one where they had won a set.

However, this season has won a set away from home against Developres Rzeszow from Poland and managed two wins against Croatia's Mladost Zagreb, guaranteeing their place in the CEV Cup quarterfinals, being one of the four teams positioned third in their pools to continue their journey.

In the quarterfinals, Plovidv will be facing Italy's Igor Gorgonzola Novara, a team with a long history of participation and success in European club competitions.

"I am really happy how we played on the court. This was probably our best match this season. I am proud of all the players. Everybody showed a good character. We write the club's history. The feeling is great and the result is good, but I think we will really do much better than this in the future."

"We are so happy that we did a great job and won by 3-0. I congratulate the girls from Mladost for the game. They gave their all on the court. We are glad we are progressing in the European Cups. Personally, I am not very satisfied with my performance today. I think I can do better, but the important thing is that we won."
