Overview
ASPTT Mulhouse has met Vakifbank Istanbul seven times in the European Cups. The Stambouliotes remain on six victories at the expense of Mulhouse: in the quarterfinals of the CEV Cup (2-3 and 0-3 in 2000) and in the Champions League (0-3 and 1-3 in 2009/2010 and 0-3 and 0-3 in 2020/2021).
The only success of Mulhouse dates to 1998 (3-2), in the bronze medal match of the Challenge Cup final four, played at the Palais des Sports in Mulhouse, when the Istanbul club was still called Günes Sigorta Istanbul. Last season, Vakifbank Istanbul won in three straight sets against ASPTTM in the Champions League group phase matches played in Plovdiv (Bulgaria) and Lodz (Poland).
François Salvagni, the Italian coach of ASPTT Mulhouse and compatriot of Giovanni Guidetti, the coach of Istanbul, considers "that to face Vakifbank is above all an honor of which we must be proud and worthy".

VakifBank ISTANBUL with another CLVolleyW win
Giovanni Guidetti"Mulhouse played much better than I had seen on video, and it was not easy. As a result, it was a very nice game, the public must have enjoyed the show. Between our World Club Championship final on Sunday, the press meetings on Monday and the trip on Tuesday, we really hadn't prepared well for the game. But whether it's in attack, in defence, we are a little stronger Mulhouse. That's why we were always able to make the difference.”
Head coach of VakifBank Istanbul
François Salvagni"I am very happy with our performance. We didn’t deliver that good of performance in our previous two games, and here our attitude was totally different. I saw a lot of will from our players. I only have one regret. If we could have defended two or three more balls in the first two sets, I think we could have taken a set.”
