Overview

1. The last time Fatum NYIREGYHAZA was participating in the CEV Champions League Volley was in 2008.

2. Fatum NYIREGYHAZA is the seventh largest city in Hungary, both the women and men volleyball team were champions before.

"December will be a very delicate and important month for us, we have two away matches in the Champions League and in between the big World Championship in Ankara, we are really in the middle of the season and we arrive in good condition after recovering the athletes who were injured. We leave for the trip to Hungary against an opponent that "on paper" is affordable for us, but we are aware that in this competition we must never underestimate any opponent."

Imoco’s Panthers on fire, seize second #CLVolleyW win

Article

The defending CLVolleyW champions from A. Carraro Imoco CONEGLIANO seized their second victory in this year’s edition of Europe’s elite competition. On Thursday, the players coached by Daniele Santarelli outclassed with no problems the rookies from the Hungarian Fatum NYIREGYHAZA. The Italian squad proved better in a match that lasted only 66 minutes. The Panthers from Conegliano delivered better performance in all the Volleyball elements, and coach Santarelli was able to give chance also to other players to enter the court (stars Paola Egonu and Miriam Sylla weren’t in the starting six.

The game was a special one for the hosts, since it was the first home Champions League match that took place in Nyíregyháza since 2004.

Both teams started off inspired, and the home side put up a real fight in the first set. Ralitsa Vasileva and Nikola Radosová were showing good game on the spiking, while for Imoco Megan Courtney, Raphaela Folie and the young Giorgia Frosini were performing the best. However, the guests took the leadership after the 17th point, and opened in their favour with a spike by Kathryn Plummer. Imoco were able to score more on their opponents’ errors and delivering three blocks to zero by the hosts.

Fans in Continental Arena NYÍREGYHÁZA could enjoy some good rallies in the beginning of the second set as well, but the inspired Panthers showed no mercy, and taking full control of the game emerged victorious. The same scenario unfolded in the third set as well.

Overall, the winners outclassed their opponents on all counts, finishing with as many as 12 kill blocks (to none by the hosts), and 58% efficiency on the winning spikes.

Kathryn Plummer was named MVP of the game, with 16 points, and 80% positive reception.

„We played a good match. We didn’t start in the best way - not so good on block and in defence, but we changed the mentality, we pushed more. I'm happy, not that much about the result, but about the attitude that we showed. We fought for each ball! This match was the last one for us before the club's world championship, and it is good that we won it, showing fighting spirit.”

Daniele SANTARELLI
Head coach of A. Carraro Imoco CONEGLIANO

„I'm really proud of the girls. I'm not saying that the first set was fantastic, it would have been if we had won it. My team played really nice, the girls really wanted to win. The most important thing was to not worry about who was on the other side of the net. The result is a realistic one, and we will be working on our mistakes."

Szabolcs NÉMETH
Head coach of Fatum NYÍREGYHÁZA
