BERLIN Recycling Volleys

- Halkbank ANKARA is the only team the BERLIN Recycling Volleys have lost to so far this season. At 1-3 in the first leg, the men from the German capital missed a great chance in the fourth set to push the match into a tiebreak.
- The Berliners will still have to do without their captain Angel Trinidad (fracture of the metacarpals). He will be replaced by Arash Dosanjh, who joined the team in November and signed a contract till end of January, and the captaincy will be taken over by the German national player Ruben Schott.
- The BR Volleys have not yet lost a home match this season and with their 3:1 victory at Aluron CMC Warta ZAWIERCIE two weeks ago they were able to put a real exclamation mark on the international scene.
- Marek Sotola is currently the third best scorer in the CEV Champions League group phase with 73 points. The young Czech also delivered 8 blocks and 5 aces in the three games.
- The crowd for the last home match of the BR Volleys in 2022 will be huge: For the match against ANKARA, the upper stands of the Max-Schmeling-Halle will be open for the third time this season and the hosts expect more than 4,000 spectators.

"We would probably have signed for this number of points after the first three legs of group competition. But if we had also taken our chances in Ankara, we would be in a much better position in this really balanced group. On Tuesday, there will be awesome conditions for a great evening of volleyball. We want to bring all our energy onto the court and then the home advantage can be very important. The first leg showed us how we can put a top international team like Ankara under pressure."

Match Report

Halkbank ANKARA disappoint BERLIN Recycling Volleys

Article

The guests from Türkiye started slightly better in the first set, taking the lead at 10-8. They gradually built up a comfortable point difference (18-12) thanks to good serve by Doğukan Ulu and Yiğit Gülmezoglu. Halkbank dominated on all counts in this set, finishing with 15 winning spikes, four aces and two kill blocks.

The second set turned out to be a real Volleyball spectacle. After a close call in the beginning of the set, BR Volleys, led by Marek Sotola, could take the leadership at 17-14. Nothing was over for Halkbank who stepped up their game, but despite their attempts, it looked like that the hosts would come back in the match at 24-21. The players of head coach Atik Taner then showed resilience, but so did the Berlin players. None of the teams was giving up, and the set ended at 35-33 for Halkbank, who finished with 27 winning spikes in this set (to 17).

The set-win was enough for the Turkish to enter motivated in the third set. Although the hosts tried their best, Nimir Abdel-Aziz was unstoppable, and helped his team to seize the much important win.

Overall, Halkbank performed better in attack - 55 to 38 winning spikes; and from the serving line - nine to seven aces. Both teams delivered nine blocks each.

Nimir, with 28 points became best scorer of the game, and was named MVP.
