According to the provisions of Art. 21.9 of the CEV Volleyball Competitions Regulations, the six Russian teams still involved in European competitions – Dinamo MOSCOW and Zenit SAINT PETERSBURG in the men’s Champions League, Zenit KAZAN in the men’s CEV Cup, as well as Dinamo MOSCOW, Dinamo-Ak Bars KAZAN and Lokomotiv KALININGRAD Region in the women’s Champions League – are forfeiting all of their matches.
Their respective opponents progress to the next round of the concerned competition following a 3-0 victory (25-0, 25-0, 25-0) in each of the matches initially scheduled or still due to take place.
More specifically, as the winners of the women’s Champions League quarterfinal between Vero Volley MONZA and A. Carraro Imoco CONEGLIANO were due to play the winners of the Russian derby between Dinamo MOSCOW and Dinamo-Ak Bars KAZAN the winner of the all-Italian quarterfinal will enjoy a bye in the semi-finals and progress directly to the Super Final.

When it ends all square...
What is a Golden Set?
With the majority of our European Cup matches played using the "Home & Away" format, it is inevitable that sometimes it ends with both sides winning one match each. So how is it decided which team progresses? Â
Well, the winner is the team with the most allocated point using the below system:
- 3 points for the winner 3:0 or 3:1 of a match,
- 2 points for the winner 3:2 of a match,
- 1 point for the loser 2:3 of a match,
- 0 points for the loser 0:3 or 1:3 of a match.
If it is a tie in the number of points then a Golden Set is required to split the teams. This is played straight after the conclusion of the second match as a 1 tie break set of 15 points, with a minimum 2 points lead achieved like in all other sets. Â
Truly one of the most intense and exciting things to witness, every time it happens.

Champions League Volley - Women is the strongest of the three European Cups, CEV’s annual continental club competitions, running from the fall through the spring of each Volleyball club season. All national champions of Europe and some additional qualifying teams from the highest ranked national federations are eligible to participate. The Champions League was established in 2000 as the successor of the European Champions Cup annual tournament launched in 1960.
