CEV Champions League Volley 2023 | Women
The past summer brought what will probably become to be remembered one of the biggest switches in volleyball club transfer history. Two of the biggest stars in the world, Italian Paola Egonu and Swede Isabelle Haak, traded clubs and moved from Imoco to Vakifbank and the other way around respectively.
After a long wait we finally got to see them on the court again in the most important volleyball club competition in the world, the CEV Champions League Volley.
Reigning champions from Türkiye, Vakifbank Istanbul had its seasonal debut on home court against the Serbians from Crvena Zvezda Belgrade, and it turned out to be a very convincing win and performance for the team and for the new star on the roster, Paola Egonu.
With 17 points in total and a set average of 5.67, it was more business as usual for Paola who seems to have integrated seamlessly in Guidetti’s team. Equally confident and efficient in her play, fans will be looking forward to see more of her on the court as the season progresses.
On the other side, Isabelle Haak and her new team, Imoco Volley Conegliano also had a home court debut against Vasas Óbuda from Hungary. Equally convincing win and performance for the Italians as they surely must be aiming for yet another Champions League campaign that will take at least to the SuperFinals, if not the title.
Swedish star, Isabelle had a solid performance that brought her 19 points and a 6.33 set average, showing that integration into the squad was never an issue and getting the crowd behind every action she sets out to complete.
