Highlights
1. Jastrzębski Węgiel continues a great series of victories. Counting all the games, the team from Upper Silesia won the last 16 matches.
2. In the CEV Champions League, the team of coach Andrea Gardini won in all 5 matches so far, losing only one set in them. The Polish team has a chance to end the group stage without a defeat, which has never been achieved by Jastrzębski Węgiel. They were closest to this in the editions: 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League and CEV Champions League Volley 2020, when they won five out of the six group games.
3. Stephen Boyer, attacking Jastrzębski Węgiel, can talk about great bad luck. On Sunday, the Olympic champion returned to the field after an almost three-month break caused by an injury to his hand, and immediately in the first action while blocking the opponent, he cut the skin in the finger of the same hand and awaited him another break in the game. Fortunately, this time, however, much shorter.
4. For Mark Lebedew, the head coach of VfB Friedrichshafen, it will be a return to the Hall in Jastrzębie-Zdrój after many years. In 2015-2018, the Australian worked in Jastrzębski Węgiel as the first coach, and in 2008-2009 he was an assistant to Roberto Santilli in this club. Interestingly, the Australian owns a house in Żory, a town located 16 km from Jastrzębie-Zdrój. In 2017, Lebedew won a bronze medal in Plusliga with Jastrzębski Węgiel.
5. Regardless of the result of Wednesday's match, the German team has no chance of advancing to the CEV playoffs in the Champions League. Jastrzębski Węgiel secured a spot in the quarterfinal for two legs before the end of the group stage.
