4th Round

Pool B

5th Leg

- Even if Ziraat Bankasi Ankara has won its home game against Greenyard Maaseik in straight sets, the Turkish champion will have to face a challenging tradition in Belgium. At home Maaseik is used to play very close games against Turkish teams. 3 of the last 5 encounters went to a tiebreak, the other two ended in a close 3-1 victory for the hosts.

- VC Greenyard Maaseik will host Ziraat Bankasi Ankara with a new headcoach. Maaseik parted ways with Joel Banks, who led the reds in more than 5 years to two Belgian League titles, a semi-final in the CEV-cup and impressive wins against top teams like Zenit Kazan, Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle, SKRA Belchatow, Jastrzebski Wegiel and Lokomotiv Novosibirsk.

- With last Saturday’s 1-3 away victory against Volley Haasrode LEUVEN, new head coach Fulvio Bertini made a succesful debut at the helm of Greenyard Maaseik. The 42-year old Italian will make his Champions League debut wih Maaseik with a lot of experience in international competitions: he has been headcoach in Bratislava (Svk), Beauvais (Fra), Nantes Rezé (Fra) and Foinikos Syros (Gre), and at the same time he’s T2 of the Czech national team.

- Greenyard Maaseik is not only looking for its first victory and first points, it still hasn’t won a single set yet in pool B. That’s no shame, since the schedule offered them extremely tough opposition: first an away game in Ankara, followed by two clashes with the mighty side of Dinamo Moscow.

- Recently -and luckily- the COVID-restrictions have been changed in Belgium, so that Greenyard Maaseik can again welcome spectators for a Champions League game. The previous European game in front of its enthusiastic crowd dates back from Feb 19th, 2020, so nearly two years ago. On that day Maaseik beat Jastrzebski Wegiel 3-2.
